Project Background

F

orcibly displaced youth face significant challenges that affect their mental health and well-being, including stress, trauma, and social isolation. These challenges are further exacerbated by linguistic and cultural differences, and limited access to education, basic services, and psychosocial support.

Recognizing these challenges, the Digital Arts for Youth and Community Wellbeing project—endorsed by the UNHCR Innovation Service’s Digital Innovation Fund and in collaboration with Artolution—introduces a psychosocially informed digital solution. Co-designed with displaced youth and artists, this initiative aims to:

  • Actively involve youth in digital arts literacy by training them in digital painting and concept art using Procreate
  • Foster artistic and emotional development through community projects like collaborative mural painting
  • Build cross-regional connections through virtual reality meet-ups using VR & AR

The activities include:

  • Graphic design and illustration workshop using ProCreate (with a CV & portfolio making session) and community mural painting with refu+ure Indonesia and the trainers
  • A virtual VR & AR workshop and meetings with Artolution communities (supported by refu+ure Indonesia and the trainers)
