The story starts in a remote village. Asha was a young girl with dreams for education. However, her father saw education as a luxury and insisted she stay home to help her mother. Her mother, exhausted by her own life of hardship, couldn’t understand Asha’s desire to go. Asha decided to show her parents that helping the family while pursuing education is possible. This story resonates with many girls in Afghan-Pakistani communities where Sakina grew up. Sakina made the storyboard, drew the illustration, and told the story through oral storytelling in a video.
